Tuning DF Class Boats

The tuning approach suggested here is a three step process applicable to both DF65 and DF95 boats:

  • Off-water adjustment to a set of baseline measurements for the chosen rig.

  • On-water adjustment to get the boat balanced in the  wind and water conditions of the day.

  • Final tweaks to achieve optimal VMG.

This is a dynamic approach.  It differs from many tuning guides where different baselines are proposed for different wind and water states.  Such approaches are useful, but don't help the skipper understand how to adapt to race conditions as they change.
